About

band01

Wisdom in Chains was born September 11th 2001, as an idea between some friends in the USA and Europe: Maarten from the band Daredevil in Holland wanted to record a side project with his friends from Krutch in the United States. They wanted to have some fun and write some good hardcore, taking influences from all the styles of music they loved throughout the years. On September 11th 2001 Maarten flew in from Holland, landed in NYC, and headed to Pennsylvania to start recording some new songs. He made it to Pennsylvania by morning and just narrowly missed the chaos that was to hit NYC later that day. Nevertheless, the recording was delayed because Richie (the guitar player for Krutch) was working in NYC and was at Ground Zero that day. Fortunatelly, Richie made it home later on September 12th. This international side project hit the studio and record several tracks which eventually lead to their self titled release on GSR from Europe in 2003. However, this Euro-American line up would never play together live. A few years later Richie and vocalist Mad Joe, who both shared duty in the band Mushmouth aka Out To Win, talked about starting Wisdom in Chains back up after Mushmouth disbanded. They contacted Maarten, and with his blessing recruited a full American line up. At this stage, the American line up consisted of Mushmouth drummer Shannon and local musicians Tony and Big Show. With this line up they would record their first official full length, “Die Young”, which was released in 2005 on Spook City Records in America and Rucktion in Europe and then licensed to Eulogy. Die Young was an album filled with anthems as well as songs that ranged the heavy music spectrum (from punk, metal, and Oi), but they were always clearly Hardcore. With this line up and with these songs Wisdom toured overseas and pushed their product to whoever would listen. Soon heavyweights in the Hardcore scene began to take notice and offers to tour with bands like Sick of it All, Agnostic Front, and Madball also started to come in. Wisdom took advantage on these offers, doing whatever tours they could while still maintaining their full-time jobs. The band recorded a 7′ for Baltimore label A389 Records entitled “Vigilante Saint” in 2006 to hold over fans until the release of their next full length.

The band record their second full length, “Class War”, which was released on Eulogy Records in 2007. In general “Class War” is regarded as a more aggressive album than “Die Young”, but it was still packed with anthems like “Cap City”, “My Promise”, and “Land of Kings”. Wisdom maintained their presence on the road and their reputation for being a tight live act with insane fans grew. Eventually, they would leave Eulogy Records to record their next full length, “Everything You Know”, on I-Scream Records. The songs on this album, various reviewers claimed, were more aggressive, more melodic, and more memorable on all levels. From this full length, Wisdom would release videos for the songs “Back to the Ocean” and “Chasing the Dragon”. Soon after, in 2009 Wisdom released the “Pocono Ghosts” 7′ on Reaper Records to hold the fans over while the band began working on a new full length. Unfortunatley, long time members Tony and Big Show both had to leave the band during this period with the former exiting because of work related issues and the latter on account of an injury. Wisdom recruited Evan from Mad Joe’s old band Feeble, and Mav from Richie’s old band Krutch. With the new line up in place, the band toured Europe and Mexico and completed work on their fourth full length, “The Missing Links”, which was released on I-Scream records. Wisdom released videos for “My Friend” and “Ghost of Buddy” from this release.
